The Year of Living Dangerously (sometimes)

On September 15 we celebrated our first continuous year in Mexico and what a year it has been.  In previous posts I have shared our boating adventures and some of the 'buying a new house' rigamarole.  This post is just an update of the last 3 months...nothing exciting.
It has been so long since I have updated this blog that it is difficult to know where to start. So I will just let my thoughts wander.
After 4 months we are very comfortable in our new house.  We do not regret our choice.
Our other house has not sold but that is no surprise as house sales are still sluggish.
In our new house all of the major jobs have been done.  Just yesterday  Bob installed a reverse osmosis/UV  water purification system  which was the last of the major items to be done.  We still have some minor changes to make but nothing that really stands out right now.
The rainy season is dribbling to a halt.  In the past 2 weeks we have had more sunny days than rainy days.  This morning we are fogged in.  At the beginning of the rainy season we had many foggy mornings and now they are here again.  It must be a change of season indicator.  Here is what our climate looks like (mind you this is based on only 1 year here.)  This year the rainy season started at the end of June.  April and May were hot and I was regretting my lack of hot weather clothing.  In May I bought 2 fans which we never used after we moved to our new house!!  As soon as the rainy season started the temperatures decreased and stayed at about 22C during the day (unless there was sun) and about 18C at night.  I did not find the rainy season depressing as I made the most of any dry weather we had.  Normally it did not rain in the morning so we were out and about.  About 2 weeks ago (beginning of September) there was a definate change in the feel of the air.  We had a huge storm and it rained for 24 hr.  After that rain the humidity dropped and the sun came out in full force.  We had about 2 weeks of excellent weather but yesterday we had rain again...as I said the rainy season is at an end.  From now until next June we should have very little rain.  The days are normally sunny (about 25C) and the nights get cooler and cooler until February.  There are season here just not as definite as Manitoba!!
Bob and Patches still walk three times a week and I still go to yoga.  My Spanish class (informal) continues and it is so helpful meeting with someone who is a native Spanish speaker.
Our new house is very close to the main plaza (La Plaza Grande) but we do not get any noise from it (unless they are having fireworks).  As we are so close to the plaza we make good use of the restaurants and cafes.  Now if I don't feel like cooking, it is only a short walk to a restaurant.
About 3 weeks ago we drove to Texas to pick up stuff for Bob's boat.  The trip was a quick one as it was so hot in Texas we just wanted out of it.
Bob is off to Mazatlan tomorrow but Patches and I will stay here.   In November when it is cooler in Mazatlan I will go with Bob.
September 30 Bob is having laser surgery done on his eyes (Mexico City).  This should correct his vision so that he will only have to wear reading glasses.  Bob has worn glasses since he was about 6 years old so this will be a novel experience for him.
While I was in Texas I bought a Kindle.  I am in love!!  What a great little gadget.  In Mexico it is difficult and expensive buying books in English so I was always borrowing books.  (Since I bought the Kindle I have read about 10 books.)  The process of buying books is rather magical.  I order a book using the Kindle and in a matter of seconds it is on my machine.   I bought the 3G version so I can download books anywhere there is cell service.  Having the Kindle on the boat will be wonderful.   Bob has filled the bookcase with 'sailing' books so there was little room for my books. With theKindle I can have as many as 3000 books on it.  That should do me for a season!
We have adjusted very nicely to living here.  I do miss seeing friends but I do not miss those trips back and forth to Manitoba.
